Square Enix has announced that they’ve reduced the amount of live servers on Final Fantasy XIV in a move which they’ve dubbed a “World Merge.”

“This World merge is intended to improve the player experience during the period up to the launch of FFXIV Version 2.0. New Worlds may be added in the future, for example after the relaunch or when player numbers increase,” read the announcement issues on the official Final Fantasy XIV website, The Lodestone.

This will mean the amount of servers will be reduced down from 18 to 10, which will mean that certain players will have to be re-assigned to new servers. The move will happen on the 27th of March, this year.

If you fail to state which server you want to be re-assigned to by the 19th of March, Square Enix will then take it upon themselves to re-assign you themselves.

The next version of Final Fantasy XIV, dubbed 2.0, will coincide with the release of the PlayStation 3 version, which is scheduled for 2013.
