343 Reveal New Halo 4 Multiplayer Mode, Spartan Ops

343 Industries has revealed a new co-operative multiplayer mode for Halo 4, which has been dubbed Spartan Ops.

The mode will work in a similar fashion to Call of Duty’s Spec Ops mode, although it will be based on a pay-per-play system. There storyline will be episodic, spanning several months. 343 believe it will have the same size and scope of the game’s single-player campaign.

Spartan Ops will also replace Firefight, which was introduced during Halo 3: ODST.

In terms of the standard multiplayer experience, this will be returning, but there will be changed. Weapons will now drop into the map via drop pods at random locations. This will prevent weapon camping. There is also no respawn delay either, so you’ll be able to jump back into the action as soon as you die.

Halo 4 is due to release towards the end of this year, just in time for Christmas. It will be the first full Halo game developed by 343 Industries.
