Samuel L Jackson On Board For Live Action Remake Of Anime Classic Kite

samuel_l_jackson_34694You know how certain actors seem to take the same roles in the same types of movies over and over again? Samuel L Jackson is definitely not one of them. From weird, smaller budget movies like Black Snake Moan to gigantic blockbusters like The Avengers, he’s cast an extremely wide net for years, and miraculously, his newest role will stretch it even further thanks to the strange and distinctive world of Japanese anime.

According to Movies.com, Jackson has boarded the live-action remake of the anime classic Kite. The original follows a young woman living in a dystopian future whose police officer father is murdered by a member of a corrupt security force. Seeking vengeance, she enlists her father’s former partner to track the guy down and assumedly, make him answer for his corrupt and murderous ways.

The project was originally set to go into production in January of this year with Jackson’s Snakes On A Plane collaborator David R Ellis helming, but for whatever reason, it got delayed. Now it’s set to shoot in Johannesburg in 2013, though it’s unknown whether Ellis is definitely still on board. Considering Jackson’s involvement, I would say it’s likely.

With production set to begin next month on the Robocop remake and work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier to come after, it should be a pretty busy 2013 for Jackson. Luckily for him, he’s pretty used to the chaos by now. He’s rumored or officially involved in more than ten upcoming projects. Luckily, it’s easy to tell them apart since most have almost nothing in common—just the way he likes it.
