Yesterday, CD Projekt Red studio manager Adam Badowski said The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt would be the final entry in the series. He said, “People may ask if this is really going to be the last Witcher game. Yes, it is.” As it turns out, what Badowski meant was The Witcher 3 would be the final game in the trilogy, but not necessarily the last game in the universe overall.

“This is the last part of the trilogy, in which there will be a great finale of the story. However, this doesn’t mean the end of franchise,” CDPR CEO Adam Kicinski told Polish Press Agency, translated byEurogamer. “Franchise will be continued.”

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is due out for “high-end” platforms in 2014. It will feature a gameworld 30 times larger than The Witcher 2, and will prompt users to make choices with “truly epic consequences.”

More than 5 million total Witcher games have been sold to date, though the figure could have been even larger. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been illegally downloaded 4.5 million times, according to CD Projekt Red, and the company has stopped pursuing pirates.
