Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: Oz #4

Part 4 (of 6): Pride of the Kavari

This is an amazing story.  This story revolves around Dorothy, a girl everyone knows about who was a dreamer sucked into the world of Oz.  In this last issue, she finds the power to use the scepter within herself, and uses it as a way to save Glinda who was gravely injured in the last issue.  And it is obvious there is a traitor in their midst but the question is who?  Then there is the question of whose side the red witch is on.  One moment she seems to be sad, the next she seems to be devoted to the wicked witch of the west and the next she seems to only want to help herself.  Her character is by far the most mysterious of all of them.

When the flying monkeys capture Dorothy and Scarecrow, there is suspicion that the Scarecrow is the traitor since he was the only one to be taken with Dorothy.  Oh those flying monkeys, tricky aren’t they.

What makes this spin on the classic so great is the story and how it has it’s own life.  The characters are strong and captivating, they have their own lives and histories that help build this story of war and magic.  Another thing is the art work, which is incredibly sexualized, but classy at the same time.  Look at the cover for instance, Glinda is very sexualized as a character, but while she is to be admired, she is also a character who should be equally feared.  She is strong, not dainty and the story highlights that about her.  The same goes for Dorothy and the Wicked Witch of the West.  This really is an amazing story.

Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: Oz #5

Part 5 (of 6): Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

HUGE PLOT TWIST HERE! The traitor is finally revealed and in hindsight, we readers should have seen it coming, but alas, it was not obvious to this reader.  That is how good the writing is.  It makes you look in one direction while it’s headed towards the other direction.  Misdirection at it’s finest.

Since Dorothy was captured by the Wicked Witch of the West, she was given a task to retrieve the emerald, the last part of the powerful scepter from the King of Emerald City or her friends would die.  So on her way, Toto comes to her rescue and she makes it to the Emerald City just in time to warn the king.  But the traitor had other plans for him

That was amazing!  Simply amazing!  The writer of this story wrote this in such an amazing way that when it came, the reader was aghast with shock.  This story and the characters in it have all changed so much since the very beginning.  This is a great lead in to the final battle/issue.  Everything has been built in such an amazing way right down to the plot twists and the story development.  It’s honestly awesome!
