The next Chronicles of Narnia movie has been confirmed! Read on to find out the latest details on “The Silver Chair”.

Now this is the news that fans of Narnia have been waiting for.

It’s been four years since the last installment of the Chronicles of Narnia film hit theaters.  The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was the first film in the series that was not co-produced by Disney after budget dispute with Walden Media.  The film, based on the novel with the same title, brought back Lucy and Edmund back to Narnia alongside their cousin Eustace, played by Will Poulter.

The film was considered a moderate success as it made $415 million worldwide against a budget of only $150 million.  Making more than double what it cost and being a closer adaptation to the novel than Prince Caspian, the movie focused a lot on character development and story than it did the special effects.

Initially, after the release of that movie is was announced that The Magician’s Nephew would be the next film in the series, but things got messy with who owned the rights of Narnia and the project was put on hold.

However, late last year, on October 1, 2013, the Mark Gordon Company announced that they would produce The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, a film now officially in development as the fourth film in the franchise.  Vincent Sieber, the Los Angeles based director of The C.S. Lewis Company, will serve as a producer alongside Mark Johnson (Narnia Films 1 – 3, Rain Man), Douglas Gresham and The Mark Gordon Company on developing the script.

As pre-production continued they were able to find a man who was perfect for the job of adapting just a wonderful novel.  David Magee has been officially been announced as the screenplay writer for The Silver Chair.  Magee, in case you’re wondering, is the man responsible for Life of Pi, a movie based on yet another wonderful novel about survival and finding hope in the slightest moments.

The Silver Chair focuses on Pevensie cousin Eustace Scrubb who is brought back to Narnia alongside companion Jill Pole.  Together the pair must find Prince Rillian of Narnia who has been missing for years.

Now there are no confirmed actors attached to the script as of yet but fans are wondering if Will Poulter will return as Eustace.  He has certainly had a growth spurt since the last film, but will that be a deal breaker?  And then there is the question of Lian Neeson, will he return as the great and powerful voice of Aslan, creator of Narnia?

Of course, there is the possibility that this film may not happen and hit unmovable roadblocks, but hopefully that will not happen.  This is a wonderful series that deserves completion.
