New Nail Polish Breakthrough Could Detects Date Rape Drugs

By: Cynthia Ayala

The world we live in can sometimes be an extraordinary place as well as a dangerous one. First there were straws that were capable of detecting date rape drugs, then there were cups. Now there is a breakthrough in technology. The technology now extends to nail polish, one of the more essential accessory to any woman’s outfit. Now women won’t only look good when they go out, they’ll be safer too and the perp won’t even know it.

10606455_1483891258520175_932355270218916043_nAccording to Triangle Business Journal, the nail polish was invented at N.C. State University by a four person company of undergraduate students called Undercover Colors. Undercover Colors (you have to admit, that’s a fitting and catching name) is currently working on raising money so that they can make the prototype nail polish even better and accessible for the mass public to use on a weekly, even daily basis.  As of right now, they have been able to raise up to $100,000 to get Undercover Colors off the ground.

Elle reports that the polish changes color when it’s exposed to a date rape drugs like Xanax, GHB and Rohypnol. Isn’t that amazing! It would work almost like mood nail polish. But I digress, admittedly, I find it frustrating when the common phrase or response to rape is “oh she asked for it dressing that way”, so having something as revolutionary as a changing nail polish would cut down the number of horrific crimes that seem to be escalating.

I’m a girl who loves to do her nails and I’m a college student who is always cautious when I go out and drink with my friends. But sometimes it’s not the strangers that we need to be wary of but rather the people around us a well. Especially in college dorms where we all like to party as hard as we study. And that’s okay. It’s great to let loose and party after hours of studying, papers, exams and projects, but being safe is even more important, especially since sex offenses on campus have risen 50 perfect in the last three years.

This product is a wonderful achievement in the world of science and another excuse for girls to do their nails while keeping in mind their safety.

Rape is no joke and no one ever asks to be raped, not in how they act nor in how they dress. Being confident and proud of one’s body should never warrant an attack, but there are just some people out there who take it as an “invitation”. Bring it on chumps, women are fierce and now this new accessory will allow us to protect ourselves and put you in your place: behind bars.

I’m ready to do my nails, how about you?
