This is the second episode of ABC’s new hit crime drama/fantasy show on its official slot on Tuesdays. The show stars the charming Ioan Gruffudd as the immortal New York Medical Examiner who has no idea why he is immortal and is constantly seeking the answer as to why he is immortal.
Over all a decent episode. The pace picked up a lot since the premiere episode last night as it follows an investigation on the murder of one young girl who was thrown off a bridge but had been seen committing a suicide. Of course, Henry (Ioan Gruffudd) continues to pursue his investigation with his keen eye and talent of observation to determine and figure out who the killer is.
This show really is a culmination of Sherlock Holmes and Highlander.
However, that’s not to say that this show isn’t fresh. The gimmicks this show employs, bringing in another immortal who is stalking Henry creates a darker and unique undertone in this show to grab the viewers. In this latest episode, the viewers are not only following the investigation, which does admittedly resemble CBS’s his crime drama ELEMENTARY, but also employs the immortality and fantasy aspect in order to give the show a fresh take. Not to mention Ioan Gruffudd, Alana de la Garza & Judd Hirsch made a very strong team. These are all seasoned actors that know how to bring life to their characters and represent the proper emotions with the proper facial expressions and interactions with one another.
The one issue viewers may find with this show is the flash backs. One the one hand they give an insight into Henry and why he holds onto his hope, the flashbacks focus more on a past love rather than on his other journeys in life. He’s 200 years old, not 70, he has this adventurous life that is barely touched upon. The writers need to take a step back and focus on other parts of his life before the romance becomes tiresome and cheesy.
