“Hook makes a deal and Regina searches for Marian’s cure.”
- Synopsis provided by Hulu
Fun filled. Once Upon a Time has, so far, redeemed itself from the debacle it became last season. Bringing both Disney’s Frozen and Hans Christian Anderson’s original Snow Queen into the mix return the show to its true fairy tale roots.
That being said, it’s amazing and brilliant hot the show has also simultaneously incorporated the 1940’s Disney classic ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ film short from Fantasia, a story arc complete with a blue hat and walking broomsticks. However, stripping away the mouse – kind of – the writers were able to elevate the story to more mature audiences and give it a proper setting in the Storybrooke realm.
Now, this show has also improved in establishing a strong connection between the characters, particularly Emma and Hook and Henry and Regina. While the family dynamic has gotten stronger between Snow White, Prince Charming and Emma, as well as hilarious, those aforementioned connections are the strongest. Those two pairings are well made by both the writers and the actors and tap into the emotional depth between them, lighting up the small screen. Regina (Lana Parrilla) also shines, tapping into the softer side, her fragile side that was used against her and ultimately turned her into the Evil Queen.
As far as the other cast members, they nail their parts perfectly, especially Elizabeth Lail who plays Princess Anna. Lail not only nails that character to a T, but she has also made it her own and completes the whole part with her beautiful charisma and beautiful/quirky facial expressions.
Georgina Haig by comparison, while she does her part well, is sometimes a bit stiff in her delivery. She’s not bad, and taps into who the character is, but she could be better.
Overall, let’s hope OUAP keeps up this light beat energy.
