Weekly Reading List #13

By: Cynthia Ayala

Hey there readers! I know that I missed last week but I was at the Florida Supercon so I didn’t get a whole lot of reading done. But this week, man, I read two whole books! Cinder and Survive the Night were so good. Especially Survive the Night. Danielle Vega really knows how to suck a reader in and with that novel, she simply captivated me. I’m very picky with giving books five stars, but that novel certainly earned it; I couldn’t put it down.

Anyway, here’s what’s coming up on my weekly reading list and, as always, all synopsis are courtesy of Goodreads. Happy reading folks.

1. Hood (King Raven, #1)

    by Stephen R. Lawhead

Finally reading it! Just on the first chapter, but so far so good. Like I said in my previous post, I have been passing this book by for years in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of Barnes and Noble, I always stared at it fascinated with it.

This synopsis is brought to you by Barnes & Noble, which had a more detailed telling of what exactly is in this novel.

“Robin Hood: The Legend Begins Anew

For centuries, the legend of Robin Hood and his band of thieves has captivated the imagination. Now the familiar tale takes on new life, fresh meaning, and an unexpected setting.

Hunted like an animal by Norman invaders, Bran ap Brychan, heir to the throne of Elfael, has abandoned his father’s kingdom and fled to the greenwood. There, in a primeval forest of the Welsh borders, danger surrounds him–for this woodland is a living, breathing entity with mysterious powers and secrets, and Bran must find a way to make it his own if he is to survive.

Steeped in Celtic mythology and the political intrigue of medieval Britain, Stephen R. Lawhead conjures up an ancient past and holds a mirror to contemporary realities. Prepare yourself for an epic tale that dares to shatter everything you thought you knew about Robin Hood.”

2. Dangerous Dream (Dangerous Creatures, #0.5)

By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

I loved the Beautiful Creatures series, if you read any of my reviews here on my blog, you can see exactly what I liked about them. But, I have always had a soft spot for my villains or anti-heroes. And with a story about the Dark Castor Ridley, well, color me intrigued.

“Catch up with Ethan, Lena, and Link as they finally graduate from high school and get ready to leave the small Southern town of Gatlin. But when Dark Caster Ridley makes an appearance, the sometime bad girl can’t resist picking a fight with her sometime boyfriend, Link. Angry and rebellious as ever, Ridley ends up alone in New York City and becomes entangled in the dangerous underground Caster club scene, where the stakes are high and losers pay the ultimate price.

Where’s a Linkubus when you need him?”

3. Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)

    By Richelle Mead

First the Vampire Academy and now the Bloodlines series, Richelle Mead knows how to tell a story. What can I say other than I love this story so far. The cover isn’t as beautiful as the previous ones, in my personal opinion, but I still love how each cover is a particular color. I also love how the story continues to evolve the characters. Color me excited.

“Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the wolds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives.

In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her…

But the struggle isn’t over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there’s still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure — and re-education — looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this smoldering fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.”
