“It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild.” —IMDB

Ah The Lego Movie has returned with the memorable characters of the original. I have to say, it was fun! The film was everything a fan of the original would expect it to be, fun, colorful, meaningful and filled to the brim with catchy music that will haunt you for the rest of your days…but in a delightfully awesome way, because it’s still awesome.

It’s fun and zany which is to be expected. No, the concept isn’t as fresh as it once was, but the movie and story to pick up where the last film left off and brings new toys, new worlds, and new characters into the mix in a wonderful way. The expansion is great and the way the universe expands is what makes it so great. The toys are moving, their scenery is changing and so everything grows because of that. The characters face new and different challenges now. For Emmet, his worlds get’s turned upside down, his friends get taken from him and he has to figure out a way to save the day when no one believes in him. But the why no one believes in him is the kicker.

The events of the previous film left everyone hardened, meaner, but not Emmet, she’s still the sweet loving optimist he always was and has been. And that’s what makes him so wonderful, that he sees the light and looks for it. He sees the best in the world, even in the darkest of times, and that’s what makes him so wonderful, the fact that he’s able to do that without even trying.

It’s just a fun movie and the writing is as great as it was in the previous film. It has the heart behind it and works to build up that heart in order for everything to work together. It’s a cohesive and fun film and it’s perfect for all ages, not just fans of the original. At the end of the day, it was just the perfect sequel to an already awesome film. (★★★☆ | A)
