Best Batman Movie Ever | Review of ‘The Lego Batman Movie’

“Bruce Wayne must not only deal with the criminals of Gotham City, but also the responsibility of raising a boy he adopted.”

By far the best Batman movie out there, The Lego Batman Movie is awesome for so many reasons. Focusing on who the character is, in such a playful way, the writers understood what makes Batman such a strong character and a fan favorite character. He’s always had his head up his tushie, and this film uses that element to make the film so funny. But then there are those sadder moments, the moments that reflect on the past and the defining moment that makes Batman who he is. The writers understand Batman better than I’ve seen in such a long time. Then there is that classic dynamic he has with Joker. This film nailed that relationship, that very toxic and twisted relationship, with perfection! Not since The Dark Knight has their relationship been so clearly and wonderfully established to build up this duo that has been the cause of so many iconic comic book moments.

Now I know that there has been so much stupid controversy over this film but let me just say this: all of that is utterly stupid. I’ve seen the original, I love the original, and to be quite frank, while this movie may be a reboot with an all-female cast, it’s hilarious. These women are funny, they have the right chemistry with one another and they bring their own creativity to this film. These actresses are not trying to be the original cast, while their parts may mirror the original cast, they bring something new to the characters, something new to the Ghostbusters franchise. Even Chris Hemsworth‘s character is different than the original Annie Potts character from the original. They are very different because the actors are being themselves, they are bringing their own unique hilarity to the film rather than rehash what was already done spectacularly, and in my book, that’s awesome.

A Bundle of Love and Laughs | Review of ‘The Secret Life of Pets’

By Cynthia Ayala

The Secret Life of Pets starring Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate & Ellie Kemper Universal Pictures Image Credit: IMDB

“The quiet life of a terrier named Max is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes.”

Where should I start? As an animal lover, I adored this movie, and as a filmgoer, I loved it. This movie had a compelling story to it that also didn’t shy away from what it means to be an animal and an animal lover. Pets get lost all the time, their collars break off, they get taken by animal control, or they are just abandoned. This film touches all of this making this a dynamic movie to behold. The best part about that is that it has a lot of heart, it has a lot of strength, and it has a lot of humor in it. This film is an adventure in the eyes of lost dogs and his friends as they try to find him and bring him back home.
