Emma Stone has done superhero movies, she’s done broad comedies and she’s done Oscar nominated dramas, and soon she may add a ghost story to her growing film resume. The young actress, who was just in theaters last week palling around with Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad, is now in talks to play the lead in Guillermo del Toro‘s Crimson Peak.

First announced last month, the project is said to be inspired by the classic haunted house films, like The Haunting and The Shining, and will both have and subvert tropes of the genre. While a deal has not yet been completed and there aren’t any character details available, Variety says that Stone is negotiating to star and that the script – originally penned by del Toro and Matthew Robins – is undergoing a rewrite by the director and British writer Lucinda Coxon. Production on the movie isn’t scheduled to begin until February of next year as the director is still working on Pacific Rim, his giant mechs vs. monsters epic that will be in theaters this summer.

Being one of Hollywood’s most sought after stars, it should come as no surprise that Stone’s schedule has been busy of late. In addition to the omnibus comedy Movie 43, which will be out later this month, she also voices one of the leads in DreamWorks Animation‘s The Croods and is getting set to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Andrew Garfield, Dane DeHaan, Shailene Woodley and Jamie Foxx.
