Selene sat on the edge of the clock tower, watching the city lights go on. Over the centuries, her hunting had improved. Selene scanned the ground for her prey. His smell had been intoxicating, invigoration, lighting up her senses. Licking her lips, her fangs elongated. Even being up at such a height had not dwindled the scent. The wind brought it to her nose, lighting up her taste buds.
“You look hungry,” came the voice of her brother. Eris materialized beside her from the shadows, wearing a plain black T-shirt and dark jeans. Selene stood up in her black boots and tight black pants, adjusting her black corset once she stood straight. She had not taken to the new styles this millennium had to offer.
“I found a tasty one.”
“Do try to control your Blood Hunger.”
“Oh, I know, I know. Besides, I am the Executioner. If I were on trial, I certainly wouldn’t kill myself.”
“I might.”
“Oh, ouch!” she exclaimed, feigning hurt.
“Do control your Blood Hunger,” he reiterated, giving her the slightest smile before dissolving into the shadows. Selene rolled her eyes. Over two thousand years had passed, yet her brother had stayed the same. Cities rose, and new discoveries were made, yet he had never changed. Although, she was not one to talk.
Selene dropped to the ground silently, waiting for her prey to turn the corner and enter the empty street. She counted his footsteps and listened to them near her spot in the dark. One…two… three…then lunged, seeking his thoughts first. He fought back, knocking her against the wall. He would never have been able to do that had she been in a sensible state of mind. What just happened? Selene could see his thoughts, but she could not taste them. Her eyes moved slowly up his face from the blade he had pointed to her. Her breathing stopped, and her heart skipped a beat. Teal eyes stared back at her from under sandy brown hair.
“Pietro?”
