I went into Tristan and the Majesteria by Corwynn Rosewood genuinely excited. A cozy fantasy featuring pirates, magic, romance, talking magical mice, and queer representation?
That sounds completely up my alley.
Unfortunately, while I didn’t hate this book, I also didn’t love it.
There are some genuinely cute ideas here, especially the Majesteria themselves and Tristan’s obsession with pirate romance novels, but the story never came together in a way that made me emotionally invested. For me, the pacing was too slow, the romance lacked chemistry, and a premise with so much potential ultimately felt surprisingly bland.
In the end, this landed at a solid 3 stars for me.
