Today I’m reviewing Tristan and the Majesteria by Corwynn Rosewood—a queer cozy fantasy that mixes magic, romance, pirates, talking magical mice, and whimsical adventure.

This sounded like it should have been completely up my alley. The author describes it as a magical slow-burn, bi-for-bi rom-com fantasy and queer pirate adventure, complete with Starlight magic, a secret mission, sea serpents, moonlit kisses, and an unreasonable amount of cheese.

Unfortunately, while the premise had a lot of potential, especially with its cozy fantasy marketing and rom-com vibes, the execution didn’t fully land for me.

I didn’t hate it. There are actually several things I thought were really cute.

But by the end, I was mostly thinking about how much more this story could have been.
