“Five medical students, obsessed by what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife.” —IMDB

Oh boy. Where to begin. First, let’s begin by saying that this film at the very least had a very strong beginning. As a reboot, there were parts where this film improved upon the original. It delved into their view of the afterlife, the energy was there, and the longer they stayed dead, the darker it seemed to get, much like the original. However, what It improves upon is the fright factor of their guilt, of what they have done in their lives which comes back to haunt them. It has the spook factor for about ¾’s of the film. You have the ghost’s of their guilt coming back to haunt them, something sinister and almost demonic hunting them.

That is about it. Continue reading “Flatlining Cheap Thrills | Review of ‘Flatliners’ (2017)”

Thankfully Light and Fun | Review of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

“Peter Parker tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and must confront a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.” —IMDB

It took forever to see this movie. You may think that since I work at the theater, I get to see the movies, but that is not the case. So just keep that in mind the next time you ask the person selling you the tickets if they have seen the movie yet. Continue reading “Thankfully Light and Fun | Review of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’”

“The crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.”

Alien: Covenant does its predecessors proud…for the most part. While the film was overly amazing, at the end of it, it’s clear that it suffers from some continuity issues. But I’ll get to that in a minute because overall, they don’t affect the enjoyment of this film at all.

“Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

    —IMDB

One word: amazing! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does not disappoint. The film looks at the characters allowing for character growth while also establishing a family unit for the characters. The movie goes back to trace back the origins of Peter/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). But there’s more to this film than just that. It had heart and focuses on the Guardians not just as a group of heroes or friends, but as a family. And that’s one of the things that makes this film so good because everyone focuses on the characters and their dynamics with one another. They care about each other, they fight with one another and for one another. They are a strong unit and the cast and crew make sure that that resonates off the screen.
