Open Casting Call For Jon Favreau’s Jersey Boys Musical

By: Kristy Puchko

Jersey_Boys_32538Following in the footsteps of Mamma Mia and Rock of Ages, the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys is the latest jukebox musical from Broadway to dance its way to the big screen. Featuring classic tracks like "Big Girls Don’t Cry," "Sherry" and "Walk Like a Man," this toe-tapping crowd pleaser tells the tale of the 1960s pop group The Four Seasons, charting their formation, rise to fame and eventual breakup.

Earlier this summer, reports had Iron Man director Jon Favreau as the unlikely frontrunner to helm this chipper musical, and with casting underway his involvement has been confirmed. But who will star? Well, maybe you. For though the show has hit stages from Chicago, to Las Vegas, London, Toronto, and Sydney, GK Films has unveiled an open casting call for the film’s four leads. Check out the breakdowns below:

FRANKIE VALLI
20-29 yrs old. 5’8" or under. Italian-American. A small, tenacious, scrappy kid from a tough neighborhood with an unusually high, clear falsetto. He is talented, hardworking and determined to succeed. ABILITY TO SING TENOR PART AND FALSETTO UP TO TREBLE G A PLUS.

BOB GAUDIO
20-29 yrs old. 5’10" or taller. Boyish, fresh-faced Bob is the keyboardist. Something of a boy genius, he is smart and savvy beyond his years. ABILITY TO SING TENOR/BARITENOR PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND KEYBOARD SKILLS A PLUS.

TOMMY DEVITO
25-35 yrs old. Italian-American. A handsome, charismatic, smooth-talking operator with a quick temper, Tommy is a born hustler from a tough neighborhood and the essence of Jersey cool. ABILITY TO SING TENOR/BARITENOR PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND GUITAR SKILLS A PLUS.

NICK MASSI
25-35 yrs old. Italian-American. A steady, sturdy, lumbering man of few words with a police record and a strong musical talent. ABILITY TO SING BASS/BARITONE PART IN TIGHT HARMONY AND BASS GUITAR SKILLS A PLUS.

With no musicals to his credit, Favreau initially seems a curious choice to direct Jersey Boys. However, with films like Made, Iron Man, and even Zathura, he has shown a skill with capturing the complicated nature of male relationships ridden with admiration and rivalry. In that way, he could provide a keen insight to the tale of four young men thrown into the murky waters of fame and fortune. And as to the musical aspects, he might offer a fresh perspective, and perhaps part of that is picking unknowns to front the film. It’s an interesting choice to be sure. So, if you think you match the types above, submit here, and maybe a future casting update will be about you.

Jersey Boys is expected to come to theaters in 2014.
