At this point, "unpredictable" doesn’t even begin to describe James Franco. The recent Oscar nominee AND Oscar host, who in 2010 had roles in both the goofy comedy Date Night and Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, has done everything recently from playing an artist based on himself on General Hospital to shooting a goofy comedy with his old pal Seth Rogen– all while getting something like 10 degrees from various colleges. It’s almost silly to be surprised by him these days, but he’s somehow managed to do it again with the latest project he’s reportedly cooking up.
Britain’s The Guardian noticed a casting announcement that was looking for "James Franco types" and "Lindsay Lohan types" of very specific ages– 13, 21, 30, 45 and 60. All they’re saying about the film is it will examine the life of "two Hollywood celebrities," and it seems pretty fair to guess Lohan and Franco are the stars in question. And before you start thinking Franco is making the unauthorized Lohan story, she apparently told the New York Post last year that she and Franco are "like best friends" — actually, you can read that article here, where she also talks about wanting to be cast in Oliver Stone’s Savages and Sam Raimi’s Oz Great And Powerful. Oops.
It’s unclear exactly what kind of film Franco is planning to make with his Lohan lookalikes, and it could easily be a small art project that nobody ever sees outside a single gallery in Chelsea. But damn if he hasn’t managed to surprise us again. That guy really does relish keeping us all on our toes.
