Star Trek fans are going to receive a series of early holiday gifts this year. In addition to that 9-minute IMAX tease we told you about a few days ago, Paramount just confirmed that the first official trailer for J.J. Abrams’ wildly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness will reach theaters on Dec. 14, as well.
TrekMovie confirms the news with multiple sources, saying that the trailer cut for the movie will be different from the 9-minute preview that’s going to be attached to IMAX prints of The Hobbit. And here’s the catch: The trailer will be attached to 2D prints of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings prequel. So if you want to see the 9-minute preview, grab an IMAX ticket. If you want to see the trailer, grab a conventional 2D ticket. And if you are a big Star Trek fan, see both.
Have no interest in seeing The Hobbit? The Star Trek trailer – which is a full trailer and not a tease, with plenty of in-movie footage – will eb attached to multiple prints the following weekend (including Paramount’s own Jack Reacher).
Abrams is shooting to have Star Trek Into Darkness on May 17, 2013. It will continue the adventures of a younger Enterprise crew, with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto resuming their roles of Kirk and Spock, respectively. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have penned the sequel, which also will feature Benedict Cumberbatch as an as-yet-unconfirmed villain (who probably isn’t Khan). What do you hope to see in the trailer? A confirmation of Cumberbatch’s role? The suggestion of action? Let us know below.
