If Hayley Atwell‘s part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was meant to be a surprise, then she just might have a bone to pick with her First Avenger co-star Stanley Tucci.
Very early in the year the British actress told the press that she wouldn’t be making an appearance in the upcoming Marvel Studios sequel, as her character, Peggy Carter, had been left behind in the 1940s when Captain America was frozen and brought back to life in the modern world. That said, we’ve known for nearly two years now that the follow-up would feature flashback sequences to the eponymous hero’s time fighting in World War II, and now it seems that Tucci has spilled the beans.
The Oscar nominated actor, who will soon be seen in Bryan Singer‘s Jack The Giant Killer, recently spoke with Collider and told them that he recently had the chance to have dinner with Atwell and that she would indeed be back for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Asked if he had been approached by Marvel about making a cameo himself, Tucci said, “No, they haven’t, unfortunately. I’m really sad. I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked.”
So was Atwell being purposefully misleading when she said that she wouldn’t be back for the sequel, or had she just not been approached by that point? Marvel Studios has spent the last five years developing a reputation for secrecy, so really either story could be true.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will go into production later this year and is slated to be released April 4, 2014.
