It was announced in 2011 that a sequel to the cult horror film “Beetlejuice” (1988) was in development. Tim Burton would produce the film and Michael Keaton would reprise his role as the eccentric title character. The sequel would be written by Seth Grahame-Smith , who has recently worked with Burton on “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and “Dark Shadows”. No new developments had been announced on the project until now.

On March 12, Grahame-Smith posted a viral picture on his Instagram account. In it, we can see Beetlejuice’s signature pinstripe outfit and the screenplay software “Final Draft” in the background. The caption for the picture contains one of Beetlejuice’s now-famous phrases: “It’s showtime.” Fans easily took the hint, and are now more excited than ever to see the freelance ghost back on the big screen.

Grahame-Smith has said that the script is, “not a reboot or a remake, it’s a straight sequel with Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice. It’s a true continuation 26 years later”. No word has been given regarding the release date, but the film will likely be released around 2015.

Are you looking forward to the return of “Beetlejuice”?
