Three years have passed since the Barden Bellas proved that they were just as good as the boys when they became the first all-female group to win a national title. But after a disastrous performance at the Lincoln Center leads to scandal, the school strips them of their performing duties. All seems lost until they are given one last chance: win the cappella world championships in Denmark and they will be reinstated. Can the girls get their act together or will they lose everything?

This film is, in one word, perfect. Pitch Perfect 2 delivers great laughs with a down to earth tone and amazing musical mash-ups. This was just an amazing film that recaptured the humor from the first film and brought it another level. These girls are seniors now, with their futures very close on the horizon and their fears are getting to them. After their debacle of a performance, their fears are rising. Being a cappella girl is what these girls have mastered in, so with their chance to continue performing in their last year, they are losing a pivotal part to enjoy their senior year.

From the musical numbers to the nonstop comedic moments that just keep coming, this film is pure enjoyment, but while that is all good, the story is what makes this a compelling film. As a musical film, this film has already cut out a large chunk from the masses, but the comedy and the story are what make this film so attractive to the masses. The characters have evolved since the first film and they have grown so much, and continue to grow in this film. This is an amazing cast to have, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are dynamic together and really bring the film to life. They are the starts, but despite knowing that, everyone in the film still gets their parts, they still have a chance to let the audience know who they are, and one doesn’t even need to see the first film to understand this one. This movie can stand on its own, it may be a sequel but it is, in its own right, its very own film.

Now, excellent casting aside, excellent story and character growth aside, whoever put these musical numbers together, is a musical genius. There are various types of music in this film and they all work together to make the film really come alive. This is a film that will leave the viewer thoroughly entertained and with a smile on their face.

Pitch Perfect 2 hits every mark with excellent precision and is the must-see musical comedy of the year. (★★★☆ | B+)
