I know that the movie didn’t get a lot of great reviews or even make back it’s bank, but at least it stayed true to the novel – for the most part – and at least the acting was solid.
I have recently just been graced(?) with a seeing the trailer of the upcoming ABCFamily television show. They didn’t ruin Pretty Little Liars, the first season, so I didn’t lower my expectations.
I should have.
This trailer has answered my question of how fake can someone actually be. No one in that trailer, adults and especially the young adults impressed with their ability to act. If that’s what you can call it. It is the most superficial and fake trailer I have seen in a long time. It makes me cringe. Especially when they had actors in the film who could act and did their parts very well. Everyone in this trailer seems incredibly fake and they don’t even have chemistry with one another, as if things couldn’t get any worse.
What’s worse is that the story is already diverging from the original storyline. Writers! Hello! You have the source material, it was good, it became a bestseller for a reason, why the hell are you messing with something good? Honestly, it’s bad. Clary’s mom banishes her instead of getting kidnapped, Clary kills someone instead of watching Jace, Isabelle and Alec do it and that’s just the beginning of the whole mess of what this show is going to be about.
As a fan of the novels and a fan of the movie (which I will now view with an even higher opinion) this trailer was incredibly disappointing. The writers have missed the mark and the acting, well it doesn’t look great. Jace seems okay, but Clary, um, not a fan.
Does it have the elements of the story? Yeah, but it’s messing with the plot line in ridiculous ways that don’t need to be messed with. The film adapted and changed the story to fit within the 2 hour mark, one would think it would be easier to stretch into a full season. There is so much there that sometimes it doesn’t need to be messed it.
However, as disappointing and cheesy as the show looks, I will give it a shot at least. Sometimes changes work. Just think, those first few seasons were awesome and they really diverged from the novel. And the movie was great too. So many these shots for the trailer weren’t the best and maybe the cast does have chemistry and can act beyond a façade of superficiality, but I’m not gonna get my hopes up.
