Contemporary YA mysteries can be very hit-or-miss for me.

I love a good mystery thriller, but I’m also really picky about them. If the mystery isn’t compelling enough, the characters don’t grab me, or the twists are too obvious, it’s incredibly easy for me to lose interest.

So, going into A Thousand Perfect Lies by Monica Murphy, I was a little hesitant.

And then this book went and surprised the hell out of me.
