I knew Kingdom of Waves by Melissa de la Cruz sounded like my kind of fantasy: rival thieves, a lost kingdom beneath the waves, ancestral magic, political tension, and a people fighting to reclaim a history that has been taken from them.

What I didn’t expect was to become so invested that I would sit at work with 20 pages left and refuse to clock in until I finished.

Okay, I was only about five or ten minutes late. 😂

But that’s how badly I needed to know what happened.

Kingdom of Waves is the first book in a new YA fantasy duology following rival Ophir thieves Eban Sadreal and Gineth “Gin” Strong. Their homeland, Ophir, was conquered by Lacon and lost beneath the waves, leaving the surviving Ophir treated as second-class citizens. When Eban and Gin separately pursue the same priceless relic, they discover an ancient magic that could potentially restore their people’s legacy.

And once this book hooked me?

It really hooked me.
