The Duality of Being Reborn | Review of ‘The Wizard Returns’ (Dorothy Must Die 0.3)

By Cynthia Ayala

The Wizard Returns by Danielle Paige HarperCollins

It’s said that the Wizard left Oz in a hot air balloon. What the tales left out what that a storm knocked him off his course and into the poppy fields to sleep. Until he was woken with no memory of who he was. But when ignorance is bliss it also teaches the Wizard that being good is all about perception, and acting has always been his specialty. With the biggest danger to Oz being Dorothy Gale, the Wizard might be the key—or the final piece in Oz’s destruction.

Published March 3, 2015, by HarperCollins, The Wizard Returns by Danielle Paige is the third in her short story collection that expands her take on Oz in her Dorothy Must Die series.

Weekly Reading List #62

By Cynthia Ayala

Hey there avid readers! My fiancé is leaving back to Florida in a few days. Sad panda. We’ve been having such a great time lately and tomorrow, the goal is Salem! We weren’t able to go last year because I got horribly sick but rain or shine I am going to Salem for Halloween! Anyway, I hope everyone has some wonderful plans for Halloween, don’t let the fact that it’s on a Monday bum you out. Anyway, check out this week’s reading list. Happy reading! Weekly Reading List #61

By Cynthia Ayala

Hey there avid readers! I hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend. For me my fiancé is coming to visit next weekend for Halloween so I’m trying really hard to get as much done as humanly possible so that I don’t have to worry about school work and can somewhat relax with him. It’ll be nice J. School going great I’m working on three different projects right now, I’m editing one book, typing the second, and starting something completely different that has dragons because who doesn’t love dragons. And there is something not working in the first chapter of my novel so I’m going to finish fine tuning it for my creative writing class so that I can turn it in and figure out what isn’t working. Maybe it’s the fact that I wrote it 5 years ago and my writing style has changed, maybe it’s something in the presentation. I don’t know, that’s what class is for. So this weekend was really dedicated to that and lots of reading and writing. But anyway, check out my weekly reading list for the next week. Happy reading! Weekly Reading List #60

By Cynthia Ayala

Hey there avid readers! I hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Lots of reading this weekend for homework, which is going to be tons of fun. Well, one of the books for class, A Writers Book of Cures and Spells by Marcia Johnson, it’s not that it’s bad, but it is hard to read because it’s written in such an unfamiliar way. It’s very different and has a strong way of lulling the reader, which isn’t bad but it definitely is a good story to read to relax the mind, but it’s not easy to read. Then I have Borges Labyrinths, I’m liking it so far, it’s all the supplemental reading I’m not looking forward to, reading essays, not really my thing, but maybe I’ll be surprised and I’ll find them interesting.

But other than school work, because I would die if that was all I had to read, here’s my reading list for the week to keep my brain functioning. Happy reading!

An Addicting, Dark and Gritty Retelling | Review of ‘Dorothy Must Die’ (Dorothy Must Die #1)

By Cynthia Ayala

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
HarperCollins

Oz has changed since Dorothy returned. Oz is darker, a nasty place where the Good Witches are evil and the Wicked are just trying to survive and return Oz to the beautiful place it once was. Power and fame went to Dorothy’s head, and with that, her hunger for magic grew, forcing her to take it from the World of Oz itself. But now her power is truly threatened by one Amy Gumm, the other girl from Kansas who landed in Oz in a tornado and who has been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked for one purpose: to kill Dorothy.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige is her debut novel in and the first in the Dorothy Must Die series published by HarperCollins on April 1, 2014. The story takes an interesting retelling for the young adult audience that is dark, gritty, incredibly entertaining, and impossible to put down.
