“After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.”
—IMDB
What an amazing movie. Sequels are always touch and go, but this one was a sequel done right. It follows that saying “live by the sword, die by the sword,” and it really captures those elements. It was just an amazingly executed sequel that has tons of action in it, but thankfully, the action doesn’t take away from the story. And that’s probably why this film is so successful, it has a story, it’s not just action sequence after action sequence of non-essential details for a mind-numbing experience. No, this film has a story. John, played by the ever so talented Keanu Reeves, got out of the crime world, he was out, he’s happy, he just wants to remain retired. But, of course, the darkness as a lure to it, and then there is blackmail. The person who helped him get out is calling in a favor. But it’s not just any favor, it’s an impossible favor that will leave John with a mark on his back. Continue reading “An Amazing Action Flick | Review of ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’”
Nerve starring Emma Roberts & Dave Franco Lionsgate Image Credit: IMDB
“A high school senior finds herself immersed in an online game of truth or dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of ‘watchers.'”
—IMDB
Are you a player or a watcher? Nerve, based on the novel of the same name, is based heavily on the extreme’s some people take to be YouTube famous. But the film takes it to another level taking the control out of the daredevil and putting it in the hands of watchers, people who control the player and the game, giving them reckless dares that could cost them their lives. For Vee (played by Emma Roberts), becoming a player on Nerve is all about trying to prove herself, that she isn’t just the meek shy girl everyone thinks she is. Thrust into this game of do or die, she meets the handsome Ian (played by Dave Franco), another player in the Game who knows more than he is telling her. The Four Horsemen resurface and are forcibly recruited by a tech genius to pull off their most impossible heist yet.
—IMDB
Almost as good as it’s predecessor, but the film suffers from a big problem of overreaching which seems to be a big problem with Hollywood lately, just make things bigger, bring everything in, the story comes second. Same thing happened right here. The tricks are too big, too outlandish, and yes, I know that magic tricks can be as big as a plane, but for the film purposes, the story should come first, not second, to make for a more enjoyable experience. Hey there readers! I hope that everyone is having a great week. I’m doing good, hanging in there, less than 40 days left for school. I’m pretty happy; nothing has stressed me out yet. I have to register for classes on Monday, that means I am going to have to wake up obscenely early (yes, waking up at 6 am is obscene) and then register and then pass back out, if I can. I’m looking forward to my class selection, it’s all about me starting my FINAL semester at Emerson College, woo!

Hello there avid readers! I hope that everyone is having a great week. All in all, things are good. I’ve already started packing to go back home to Florida. I’m gonna need a second job this summer. I applied at Barnes and Noble and I’m really praying here to work there in the summer, Monday – Wednesday, 9 – 5. That would be perfect, absolutely perfect. I would work there, stocking books, marveling at them, taking extra good care of them, and then I could go home, spend time with my mom and my kitties before heading to my bf’s apartment because he lives closer and drives by there on his way to work. It would certainly be better than waking up obscenely early to catch the bus for an hour long ride. I’m being hopeful here, I could so use that job because I hate how low my account has gotten. Oh money. Living off campus is so expensive, but I’m being hopeful.
Anyway, it was a nice week and it went by really quick. Wow, I only have a month left in school. Insane! Anyway here is my reading list that will keep me sane. All synopsis are courtesy of Goodreads. Happy reading.Continue reading “Weekly Reading List #38”
Hey there avid readers! I hope that everyone is having a splendid week. For me, it was Spring Break so I relaxed, went to work obviously and had some homework, a few short stories to think about my paper that is going to be due in a while, and the final version of my short story, which needs to be done by Thursday.
Anyway, it was nice week, a nice break from school but now it’s back to school and back to the real world where bills live. Ugh. So, here is my reading list that will keep me sane. All synopsis are courtesy of Goodreads. Happy reading. Continue reading “Weekly Reading List #37”
