Resident Evil 5: Retribution Film News

Resident Evil 5 aka Resident Evil: Retribution will begin shortly after principal photography finishes around December 23, 2011. Filming locations include Toronto at Cinespace’s Kipling studio facility, Tokyo and Moscow. Resident Evil: Retribution will be shot in 3D, like with Resident Evil: Afterlife. Paul W. S. Anderson returned as writer and director, Glen McPherson serves as director of photography and Kevin Phipps as production designer. An element from the fourth video game called the Las Plagas parasite will play a part in the film and will allow the undead to “run around, ride motorbikes, and shoot machine guns”. An action scene taken from the fifth video game where the characters are driving a Hummer while being chased by zombies; for the film the Hummer was changed to a Rolls Royce Phantom.

Returning from the previous film are: Milla Jovovich as Alice, Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) and Boris Kodjoe (Luther West).  Shawn Roberts (Albert Wesker) reportedly makes a cameo appearance. Colin Salmon who played James “One” Shade and Michelle Rodriguez who played Rain Ocampo in the first film returned. Oded Fehr who portrayed Carlos Olivera in the second and third film also returned.

The characters, Ada Wong, Leon S. Kennedy (played by Johann Urb) and Barry Burton will appear in the film. Ali Larter (Claire Redfield), Wentworth Miller (Chris Redfield) and Spencer Locke (K-Mart) will not return and their absence will be explained by their characters being captured by Umbrella.

Resident Evil: Retribution is scheduled to be released on September 14, 2012.

Two Possible Ways Michelle Rodriguez will return for Resident Evil 5: Retribution:

  1. Michelle Rodriguez will return as Rain’s sister Sunshine (debunked)
  2. Being revive by umbrella. Rain corpse was saved by the umbrella from the Hive like they revived Alice in Resident Evil 2: Apocolypse.

Director Paul Anderson said in recent interview with GameStop on concerning Michelle Rodriguez:

“…She’s back. Colin Salmon, who was the leader of the Umbrella team in the first Resident Evil, is back as well. Oded Fehr, who died in the third Resident Evil: Extinction is back. We just had the table reading in Toronto with all the actors, and it was so much fun to have all these familiar faces and voices in the movie. I think it’s going to be a real trip, and I think it’s going to be really exciting.”

Also in Resident Evil 5: Retribution, for all the gamers in there, the character Leon will be in the movie. Johann Urb has been cast as the part and according to Director Paul Anderson in a recent interview concerning the part:

“Well, it’s obviously a lot of pressure because of that and especially Leon because he has such an extreme look. Firstly, he’s a major action hero. But also he has the floppy hair, and you have no idea how hard it is to find someone who looks like that. They’re usually mutually exclusive. It’s like the guys with floppy hair are all kind of doing British period movies, like Brideshead Revisited, and the guys who are top action heroes usually have buzz cuts. But I think after a long and very exhaustive search, we’ve finally found the right guy in Johann Urb.”

Also featured in the movie will be the Las Plagas from game 4 which, in my opinion, were a pain to kill. It’ll be interesting to see how they are going to pull this off but it will also make for a wicked cool story line like they did in the movie. For me though, I like that the movies are becoming more in tune with the video games. That’s just my opinion though. I can’t wait to see this movie.

  1. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and appearance. I must say you’ve done a amazing job with this. Also, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Internet explorer. Outstanding Blog!
