Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell are teaming up for another comedy together, though they won’t be on the same team this time around. The duo, who starred in The Other Guys are set to play the heads of opposing families in a football-focused comedy called 3 Mississippi. It now looks like a writer/director team may be on board to tackle the Warner Bros. film.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sean Anders and John Morris are in negotiations to rewrite the film, with Anders set to direct.
3 Mississippi follows two families who are feuding over their annual Thanksgiving touch football game, which has apparently been a tradition for 50 years. Ferrell and Wahlberg will play the heads of the opposing families. Warner Bros. is hoping to begin production on the film in September, and with Anders and Morris on board, that may be a possibility.
Anders and Morris share writing credits for a number of recent projects, including the screenplays for Hot Tub Time Machine, She’s Out of My League and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Among those, Hot Tub Time Machine may have delivered the biggest laughs. There’s also a lot of potential for laughs with a premise like 3 Mississippi’s, and Ferrell and Wahlberg’s involvement certainly adds to that.
As for other future projects, Anders and Morris are keeping busy. Anders has the upcoming Andy Samburg/Adam Sandler comedy That’s My Boy headed into theaters this June (Morris is credited as a producer), and the duo are currently credited to write the screenplay for the untitled Dumb & Dumber sequel, which will put them back in the company of Jim Carrey.
