Have you heard? There will be a Bill and Ted Movie, a third one. Now, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was hilarious! Absolutely hilarious that I loved it. But Bogus Journey was just a rehash of the first one, and a very stupid crappy one at that. One would think that the Bill and Ted’s Franchise was done and over it. But it’s been roughly 20 years, give or take a few, and the plot for the third one has been fermenting in the minds of the writers, so the potential of this movie being as good as the previous movie is good. But will it work?
We’ve seen Keanu Reeves in many roles that take him away from the adolescent rocker who, was, well, not totally dumb as a doorknob but pretty darn close. Would he still be able to play that part after roles like the serial killer in The Watcher, the chosen one Neo from The Matrix Trilogy, or even the ever so charming John Constantine? Keanu Reeves has shown how flexible of an actor he really is. But sometimes, even actors outgrow parts. Now I haven’t seen Alex Winter in anything recently. The last thing I saw him in was The Lost Boys, as a Vampire where he undoubtedly died…alongside Kiefer Sutherland. So to see him take on the Bill Mantle again would be quite easy. But with the success that Keanu Reeves has gained, as well as with the talent that he ha shown over the years, will it really be so easy?
Now the movie has a potential director, Dean Parisot, the Director of Galaxy Quest (btw where’s my sequel with Justin Long hmm?) So that gives me hope that this movie won’t be totally bad because he has proven that he is a good director. So in that respect I am less nervous that this movie will be bad.
Now, onto the story. Once again you have these two who are now middle aged and have yet to write the song that will bring peace to the world. You know the song we saw in movie one. The slow air guitar movement still crack me up. Here is what Keanu Reeves revealed in an interview with GQ Magazine:
"One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven’t done it. So everybody is kind of like: ‘Where is the song?’ The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future ‘us’ refuses to tell us, and another future ‘us’ blames us for their lives because we didn’t write the song, so they’re living this terrible life," he said. "In one version we’re in jail; in another we’re at some kind of highway motel and they hate us."
So it looks as thought they will be travelling through parallel universe (the multiverse to us comic geeks) to figure out what they heck they need to do in life to write the song that will bring peace to the world. This is a very interesting plot, I’m a fan of time paradox’s, well I have a love hate relationship with the concept, lets leave that at that shall me, but the fact that this plot is different that the first yet is strictly connected to it, makes me happy. I just don’t hope it’s going to be so god awful and bad. Keeping my fingers crossed!
