Galactus Is Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

By: Devin Faraci

GalactusHOLY SHIT.

I know I should be more articulate, but right now I cannot be. The reason is because there is news that leads me to believe The Avengers 2 will feature a giant, horn-hatted Galactus.

How?, you ask. Isn’t Galactus trapped at Fox as part of the Fantastic Four rights package? He sure is, but Kevin Feige and his team of dream wizards at Marvel Studios are right now engaged in character swap talks – Marvel will get Galactus and the Silver Surfer in exchange for letting Fox hang on to Daredevil. Right now Fox is staring down an October 10th start of shooting in order to keep DD’s rights, and they have big plans for the character.

This is pretty amazing news. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets more cosmic, the presence of Galactus seems key. And while he appeared as a fucking cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, I firmly believe that the current Marvel Studios will represent him fairly faithfully. After all, he’s one of the best designs of all time.

Here’s my one critique: rather than negotiate for the characters, why not work out a co-production deal? Fox is rebooting The Fantastic Four with Chronicle director Josh Trank directing and sexual tyrannosaur Jeremy Slater writing, but why not let them set their film in the Marvel Universe? Let’s just go whole-hog here and bring the Marvel characters together. There’s no way that will be anything but good for Fox’s film, and I think it can be done in a way that won’t fuck up the plans that Trank and Slater are making already.

In the meantime, I’ll take this. Every time I think Marvel Studios can’t bring one of my nerdiest dreams to life, they figure out a way to make it happen.
