David Fincher and Brad Pitt‘s working relationship stretches back nearly two decades now. The director and the actor first worked together on 1995’sSe7en, and have since reteamed on both Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. For a while it looked as though there was a possibility that they would be reuniting yet again for Fincher’s upcoming adaptation of20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, but this morning we learned that those plans won’t be coming to fruition. Instead, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker apparently has another A-list star on his radar.

Following up on the report from earlier today, The Playlist is reporting that the production is looking at Channing Tatum as a possible star for the Jules Verne adaptation. While it sounds like nothing has been set in stone and it might just be an idea at this point, the site says that the young star’s name is one that has popped up in conversation – though they fail to specify exactly what role he would play. The problem with the situation is that Tatum and other actors being considered won’t have any availability in their schedules until next year, meaning that the project is “somewhat up in the air.”

When I spoke with writer Scott Z. Burns about the film back in 2011 he told me that the new version of the story will largely focus on the relationship between Captain Nemo, French marine biologist Professor Pierre Aronnax, and master harpoonist Ned Land, and if that’s still the case (a lot can happen to a script in over a year) we can assume it would be one of the latter two parts that would be considered for Tatum. But do you think he would be a good fit for the project?
