Once there were two sisters. Birthed in darkness and stardust.
Twins who loved each other. One with white hair and skin of starlight, the other black, skin pale as the moon. Dearly devoted they were to one another in the chaos that had spit them out.
Soon, they welcomed a brother, grey-haired, the perfect balance of the two of them.
Together they created the world.
And then their children.
The Goddess of Light created winged beings, beautiful, with the skin of starlight.
The Goddess of Darkness created her Shadowlings, beings that lived in the shadows of their cousins.
There was no animosity between the sisters. Not at the beginning.
The Goddess of Darkness poured too much of her love into her children, leaving herself with less and less. She still loved her sister, but her anger flared when her firstborn son abandoned his people, her, for her sister’s daughter. So convinced she was that her sister was greedy, stealing away her children, she twisted the design of her children.
No longer did they live in the shadows, content. Now, they were hunters, driven by the need to extinguish the starlight.
Nothing the Goddess of Light said could quell her sisters rage. No longer were they twins devoted to one another. Now they were enemies.
Their bother saw the carnage and despair. So he created his own children. Thus the Witchlings were born, mortals with skin of starlight and magic in their blood, and the Vampyres with the skin of shadow. Together they balanced the world, helped end the war.
But Darkness was not content, and she was not through. She cursed the soul of her firstborn son. He would be rebirthed, but she would not stop trying to regain his soul. He would have no peace, and he would never live happily with his love.
In the darkness, Light wept as she watched her sister keep her promise. Finally, her brother came to her again, and together they wove a new soul. In this, Light put as much of her soul into her daughter, as much of her light as she could without losing herself, and her brother put as much magic in her veins that he could. Together they bound her to the firstborn son of Darkness.
But Darkness found a way and twisted the fate of her sister’s would-be savior.
Two souls twisted by the gods,
Bound to change the course of history.
But for better or worse,
No one knew.
