Hey there, everyone! I hope everyone had a great March! I didn’t get to read all the books I wanted to this month, surprise surprise, but it was a more enjoyable month as far as reading went.
Anyway, how did everyone else do this past month? Meet any personal goals?
I Hope This Doesn’t Find You
Surprisingly I read this book in a day. I saw surprisingly because contemporary romances are not my typical genre. My friend Gina has been a bad influence on me. But I love the way the story evolved, how it focuses on two students eager to be the top of their class, constantly trying to one up one another. I loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Sadie and Julius and the way their relationship develops, unveiling the pressures each one puts on themselves to be the best.
The Immortal Games
This book was so amazing. I love the way author represented the gods and gave them such strong personalities. Hades is a dream boat. The friendships that develop between the tributes makes it stand apart from Hunger Games even though the book has very strong Hunger Games vibes.
Murder at a Scottish Castle
Traci Hall knows how to write a cozy mystery. I loved the way the story develops and the way she focuses not just on the mystery but also building up the characters personal lives in the meantime. There are layers to the storytelling and the investigation. Honestly, again, the perpetrator was not even on my list of suspects.
The One that Got Away with Murder
I was a little confused at the reveal. I say confused because I didn’t understand the murders motive. I could not tell if they murdered to protect a secret of someone else or if there was another motive. Their internal dialogue at the end left me some questions. Parts of the novel and the investigation seemed a little all over the place, but they’re teenagers so it fit. Ultimately, it was a good story, even though bits were frustrating.
The Girl With No Reflection
Okay, I liked this book but sometimes Princess Ying was frustratingly annoying. It reminded me of that movie mirrorworld by jim hensen at times. I liked the story, the way it evolved, but Ying was just too trusting at times. I love her ferocity and the way her relationship develops and how she grows, but damn, for half the book I wanted to slap her at times. Still, very good story.
Bless Your Heart
This book was so good. I love the way the zombies and vampires were unique to the story and as a whole. I’m always so impressed when authors can take two common horror tropes and still make them unique. There was also the way the story developed and the familial love between the characters. It was a fun action-packed novel that was just thoroughly remarkable. Loved it.
Where the Dark Stands Still
I loved the pacing of the book. Liska’s character development was amazing and absolutely loved how she grew. She really did remind me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, which is still my favorite fairytale. The way the plot unraveled and the way the story unfolded; oh it was great. That ending though, broke my heart a little bit. It was bittersweet in such a wonderful way and the ending; well it left me with hope.
Lakesedge
This book has been on my TBR pile for ages. I was expecting a more Crimson Peak kind of story, a little more horror than fantasy, but the way the story unfolded was great. I didn’t expect the plot twists and the way the story unfolded. Honestly, excited for book 2! After that ending, I need to see what happens between Violeta and Roman.
Spinning Silver
I loved the characters in this book. Irina was such a badass. There was some illusion to the tale of Persephone and Hades between Miryem and the Staryk. It felt like a fairytale, and that’s what I love about Novik’s writing, the atmosphere she builds alongside the characterization. I will say, the only thing preventing me from giving this book a 5-star review is the number of characters. I like that she gave many of the characters POV’s but as the pacing increased sometimes it got a little difficult to keep track of who was talking.
