An Amazing Action Flick | Review of ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’

By Cynthia Ayala

“After returning to the criminal underworld to repay a debt, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life.”

What an amazing movie. Sequels are always touch and go, but this one was a sequel done right. It follows that saying “live by the sword, die by the sword,” and it really captures those elements. It was just an amazingly executed sequel that has tons of action in it, but thankfully, the action doesn’t take away from the story. And that’s probably why this film is so successful, it has a story, it’s not just action sequence after action sequence of non-essential details for a mind-numbing experience. No, this film has a story. John, played by the ever so talented Keanu Reeves, got out of the crime world, he was out, he’s happy, he just wants to remain retired. But with a mouthful of a title, we have a little trouble figuring out exactly what kind of movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is trying to be. On the surface, it’s a long one. From what I could tell, Zack Snyder wanted to fit both a Batman movie and a Superman movie into its two and a half hour runtime. Those two unraveling entities finally meet up at the end for a bombastic finale that gets tacked on after the fight that the title promises. Individual parts of the movie aren’t bad, but the execution of putting them together leaves much to be desired, and we come out with a movie that is, in a word, a mess. Hannibal Season 2 – Just a Dream?

By: Cynthia Ayala

I’m a huge fan of Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. Even Hannibal Rising has a great premise coupled with a thought out cast. Therefore, when I first heard that NBC was going to be turning the one of the most iconic film series into a TV Series, I was thrilled. Thomas Harris, the creator of Hannibal Lector, build up one of the most iconic characters out there, and the show’s writers, creators and actors. However, this last season, while it started out well, rather took a nosedive.
