“Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

    —IMDB

One word: amazing! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does not disappoint. The film looks at the characters allowing for character growth while also establishing a family unit for the characters. The movie goes back to trace back the origins of Peter/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). But there’s more to this film than just that. It had heart and focuses on the Guardians not just as a group of heroes or friends, but as a family. And that’s one of the things that makes this film so good because everyone focuses on the characters and their dynamics with one another. They care about each other, they fight with one another and for one another. They are a strong unit and the cast and crew make sure that that resonates off the screen.

Terribly Common Yet Fun | Review of ‘The Belko Experiment’

“In a twisted social experiment, 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogotá, Colombia and ordered by an unknown voice coming from the company’s intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.”

—IMDB

This is one of those movies that is enjoyable, just as long as you remember to shut your brains off. The Belko Experiment isn’t an entirely unique or fresh take on the cliché story of putting people in a room and seeing who will kill to survive and who won’t. Battle Royale did it, The Hunger Games did it, and many more. This film is just another film on that list. Does that make it any less enjoyable? No, just as long as you just shut your brain off, otherwise you won’t enjoy this film at all.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Adds Glenn Close

By:  Eric Eisenberg

Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_37797Yet another massively talented, award-winning actor has made a deal to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadline is now reporting that Glenn Close, who has been nominated for an Academy Award six times, is the latest performer to join the cast of James Gunn’s slowly-growing Guardians of the Galaxy. Calling the part “a major role,” the website says that she will be playing a leadership role (similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury) in the intergalactic police organization known as the Nova Corps – which also seems to confirm that the film will indeed include the Nova Corps. Story details are being kept to a minimum right now – as is the case with all Marvel movies in their infancy – but Gunn handled screenwriting duties and production is gearing up to start next month.

Close is just the latest to join the cast of the space-set sci-fi adventure, which over the past few months has added Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, and Michael Rooker as Yondu. The new story also seems to confirm recent reports saying that both Lee Pace and John C. Reilly have joined the project, but doesn’t go into any specifics about their roles (the former was rumored to be playing the villain).

Close was last on the big screen in 2011’s Albert Nobbs – a performance that got her that sixth Oscar nod – and she’s been busy on the small screen starring on FX’s Damages. She most recently completed production on director Jeff Preiss’ new indie film Low Down and recently started working on Five To Seven with Anton Yelchin.

Lee Pace in Final Negotiations to Play Villain in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (Exclusive)

By: Jeff Sneider | The Wrap

lee-pace-300Lee Pace (“The Hobbit”) is in final negotiations to play the villain in Disney and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

The identity of Pace’s villainous character is being kept under wraps.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” finds Quill leading a group of alien superheroes as they protect the solar system from an evil alien race.

The cast currently features Chris Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, WWE star Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu. Ophelia Lovibond will also co-star in an unknown supporting role.

Production will start in June and Disney will release the film on Aug. 1, 2014.

Last November, Pace was mentioned as one of several actors being considered to play hero Peter Quill, aka Star Lord. Pratt ultimately won that role but Marvel was impressed with Pace’s audition and kept him in mind when it came time to cast the villain.

Pace, who recently worked with Steven Spielberg on “Lincoln” and had a supporting role in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” plays Thranduil in Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” trilogy.

On the small screen, he starred in Bryan Fuller’s acclaimed series “Pushing Daisies” and “Wonderfalls,” and will soon be seen as the lead in AMC’s pilot “Halt & Catch Fire,” which co-stars Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Adds Ophelia Lovibond To The Cast

By: Eric Eisenberg

Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_37106With Iron Man 3 heading to theaters in the next couple weeks, Thor: The Dark World deep in post-production, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier now in front of cameras, the next big development for Marvel Studios is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which continues to build its cast today. The film already has a interesting mix of actors attached, from Chris Pratt as Star-Lord to Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer to Zoe Saldana as Gamora, but now another piece has been added to the puzzle.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that British actress Ophelia Lovibond, who was previously featured in movies like No Strings Attached and Mr. Popper’s Penguins, is the latest to sign on for a part in the galactic comic book movie. While the trade has since removed details about the role, the original report said that she will be playing an assistant to a being known as The Collector, described as a near-immortal “who gathers artifacts and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation.” She is the second actor to join the cast of the film in the last week, with Walking Dead star and Gunn regular Michael Rooker signed on last week to play Yondu Udonta.

It’s worth noting that in the comics The Collector has a connection with Thanos, the big purple dude revealed during the end credits of The Avengers, so this is just one more piece of evidence suggesting that Guardians of the Galaxy will feature the Mad Titan. Production on the film will begin this June, with Marvel and Disney targeting an August 1, 2014, release date.
