While we countdown to June for the release of Pixar’s exciting-looking new animated film Brave (check out the latest trailer here!), Pixar is looking ahead at future projects, which include a film based on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, the “Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind” and a dinosaur film that now has a title.
We got a number of updates from Pixar at CinemaCon today, the first of which involves their dinosaur film. Has there been a dinosaur movie that’s captured the hearts of children since The Land Before Time? If not, perhaps Pixar’s movie will do the trick. Titled The Good Dinosaur, the film is scheduled to release into theaters on May 30, 2014.
Meanwhile, the date has been set for the “Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes you Inside the Mind” is set to release June 19, 2015. From what we learned about the project last year, per Up director Pete Docter, the story takes place inside the mind of a girl, “and it is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
And finally, Pixar has Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich set to direct the Dia de los Muertos film, which is also set to release in 2015. In addition to directing Toy Story 3, Unkrich also co-directed Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and Toy Story 2. If I were to speculate on the date, I’d say it’s possible Disney will aim for Halloween (or more specifically, the days that follow) or sometime in that general area, not only to time it with the Mexican holiday, but also to put some calendar distance between this one and the Mind movie.
