Since Hailee Steinfeld made her breakout turn in the Coen brothers’ 2010 hit True Grit, we have patiently waited to see what she would do next and thus far she hasn’t disappointed. While we actually haven’t seen any of her movies come out since, she’s been making smart choices all along the way, signing on to play the eponymous heroine in Carlo Carlei’s Romeo and Juliet, which won’t be out until next year, as well as the highly-anticipated sci-fi adaptation of Ender’s Game. But the Oscar-nominated young star isn’t ready to slow down yet.

Deadline has learned that Steinfeld is now in talks for Why We Broke Up, a new film set up over at Fox 2000. The movie is based on the novel by Daniel Handler, who is best known for writing the books in the Lemony Snicket series (which got its own adaptation back in 2004 with Jim Carrey). Should she sign on Steinfeld will play Min, a young high schooler who begins a relationship with Ed, a senior who also happens to be the captain of the basketball team. After they break up, Min leaves a box of “seemingly meaningless” mementos on his porch. Beth McCarthy-Miller, who is best known for directing television series like 30 Rock, Up All Night,The Marriage Ref and Mad Love, will be helming the film based on a script written by Handler.

True Grit was one of my favorite films of 2010 and as much as I liked Jeff Bridges’ performance, the Coens’ direction and Roger Deakins’ cinematography, Steinfeld was what really made me really fall in love with the movie. Even at such a young age she has incredible talent and hopefully she will keeping taking projects that take advantage of that talent.
