Indiana Jones 5 Finally Called Off, Says Frank Marshall

By: Katey Rich

indiana_jones_32155Frank Marshall, the mega-producer behind everything from The Warriors to The Bourne Legacy, recently revealed that plans are a lot further along than you thinkon Jurassic Park 4, which is aiming for release in summer 2014. But before you start thinking he’s only trying to revive beloved films from our youth, he also seems to have given up on a completely different revival. Talking to Collider, Marshall was the first person in years to admit that, yeah, a fifth Indiana Jones probably isn’t going to happen:

“I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah.  I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.”

Marshall is obviously being careful not to speak for everyone, knowing as well as the rest of us that it’s entirely possible Steven Spielberg will come up with an idea, collect enough blackmail to get Harrison Ford on board, and have the whole thing in production by next summer. But until now every time someone talked aboutIndiana Jones 5— be it Shia LaBeouf or Harrison Ford or George Lucas— it’s been in vaguely optimistic terms. But they’ve always talked about trying to crack the story for the new script, and with that part still not accomplished, it’s no wonder Marshall seems ready to throw in the towel.

I think we can all happily say good riddance to rumors of an Indy 5, and allowKingdom of the Crystal Skull, flawed as it may be, to be the final word in the franchise. Or really, you can choose to just live in a permanent 2002 of the mind, pretending that Last Crusade is the last time we see Indy. No one will try to stop you.
