For those of you that may not know, I will provide the Wikipedia description of True Lies, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, Tia Carrere, Charlton Heston, and Art Malik. Actually nevermind, I’ll just sum it up.
Here you have Harry (played by Schwarzenegger) who lives a double life. He’s a spy. He thinks his wife (Curtis) is cheating on him, with a man who claims to be a spy, he and his crew kind of kidnap her and, in an attempt to help his wife become fulfilled, he sends her on a secret mission. It was hilarious if you ask me. But then things go horribly from, they are both attacked and kidnapped by terrorist. From then on they are stuck together in this mess, trying not to die. Totally hilarious.
It’s a lame summary, I admit, but I guess it will have to do.
This was an action dramedy, and a damn good one at that. So where is the sequel?
Back in 2011, according to CineMatical of Moviefone Tom Arnold said this:
“We [Arnold and Schwarzenegger] have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show ‘White Collar,’ wrote. It is really great. Jim can’t direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again."
So that means the script and the screenplay are done. In fact the movie was all set with James Cameron (the director/producer/screenwriter of True Lies) was set to produce the second one, if not direct. In fact Schwarzenegger has even stated that action with more comedy is something he wasn’t to do more off.
“Extreme fighting and shooting isn’t possible for me anymore. In the future I’ll need to pick my roles according to my age.”
That’s understandable consider the man is, well, kinda old. You wouldn’t really be able to tell by looking at him and his muscles but it’s true.
Now all that was stated in March of 2011.
In September of 2011, different things were said. Instead of making another movie, James Cameron was said to have been working on a True Lies TV Series with John Cena attached to the project. 20th Century Fox TV was even planning on shopping the project to the networks. That still hasn’t happened. There is no more news on the subject, at least, not that I have found. It looks as though this project has been shelved. My mother will not be happy when I tell her this.
If you have any news on the subject please comment and let me know cause I would love to have a sequel.
