Hey there readers! I hope that everyone had a wonderful week/weekend. It’s been pretty boring here in sunny Florida. Of course, here is some interesting news. My reviews have been favorited and retweeted Twitter by some authors! Isn’t that exciting! It may have only been two authors (Soman Chainani and Danielle Vega), but any sort of recognition is exciting in my book. They liked what I had to say about their novels. Then again, when I’m giving a book 4 or 5 stars, it’s hard to not like it, even if it may be poorly written. Oh God, now I’m going to be even more self-conscious about my reviews. However, if I stop now I won’t improve and sticking to it, analyzing and editing it certainly a way to make sure that I continue to improve.
So I finished the fourth novel in the Saga of Seven Suns series, Scattered Suns, and it was amazing! I’m in the middle of A Magic Dark and Bright right now and so far I like it. Can’t really complain, I did get the book for free after all via a Goodreads Giveaway. Anyway, here’s what’s on my reading list for the coming week. Happy reading folks.
But before I forget and ensue a lawsuit, all synopsis’ are provided by Goodreads.com.
1. The House of Shattered Wings
Another novel that I was able to get my hands on. This novel I won via Penguin’s First to Read program, a program that I recommend to everyone who loves to read. Reading this fuller synopsis I am even more intrigued than I already was. Hope it’s as good as it sounds.
“Multi-award winning author Aliette de Bodard, brings her story of the War in Heaven to Paris, igniting the City of Light in a fantasy of divine power and deep conspiracy…
In the late Twentieth Century, the streets of Paris are lined with haunted ruins. The Great Magicians’ War left a trail of devastation in its wake. The Grand Magasins have been reduced to piles of debris, Notre-Dame is a burnt-out shell, and the Seine has turned black with ashes and rubble and the remnants of the spells that tore the city apart. But those that survived still retain their irrepressible appetite for novelty and distraction, and The Great Houses still vie for dominion over France’s once grand capital.
Once the most powerful and formidable, House Silverspires now lies in disarray. Its magic is ailing; its founder, Morningstar, has been missing for decades; and now something from the shadows stalks its people inside their very own walls.
Within the House, three very different people must come together: a naive but powerful Fallen angel; an alchemist with a self-destructive addiction; and a resentful young man wielding spells of unknown origin. They may be Silverspires’ salvation—or the architects of its last, irreversible fall. And if Silverspires falls, so may the city itself.”
2. City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)
I have been looking forward to this novel for a year now! Countless times have I tried to get my hands on this novel. Now, finally, it is mine! I know, I could have bought the novel in hardcover but I’m one of those people who already has the entire series in paperback to in paperback it must be. So here we are, finally on my shelf and my ever growing reading list. I’m so excited!
“In this dazzling and long-awaited conclusion to the acclaimed Mortal Instruments series, Clary and her friends fight the greatest evil they have ever faced: Clary’s own brother.
Sebastian Morgenstern is on the move, systematically turning Shadowhunter against Shadowhunter. Bearing the Infernal Cup, he transforms Shadowhunters into creatures out of nightmare, tearing apart families and lovers as the ranks of his Endarkened army swell.
The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris – but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?
When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee – even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned…
Love will be sacrificed and lives lost in the terrible battle for the fate of the word in the thrilling final installment of the classic urban fantasy series The Mortal Instruments!”
3. Dangerous Creatures (Dangerous Creatures, #1)
By Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Okay, so the prequel to the series (Dangerous Dream) was a little bit of a letdown. However, it was just an eNovella, only 100 pages and considering that the Beautiful Creatures series was good, I’m still willing to buy these books before I read them because the authors have shown just how much talent they have. Besides, it’s about bad girl Ridley and her on-again-off-again boyfriend Link. With chemistry like that, I’m already hooked.
“A new series returns to the world of Beautiful Creatures. Some loves are cursed…others are dangerous.
Ridley Duchannes will be the first to tell you that she’s a bad girl. She’s Dark. She’s a Siren. You can never trust her, or even yourself when she’s around. Lucky for her, Wesley “Link” Lincoln can never seem to remember that; quarter Incubus or not, his heart is Mortal when it comes to Ridley. When Link heads to New York City to start a music career, Ridley goes along for the ride-and she has her own reasons. As if leaving small-town Gatlin for the big city, trying to form a band, and surviving life with a partially reformed Siren isn’t hard enough already, Link soon learns he has a price on his head that no Caster or Mortal can ever pay.
Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthors of Beautiful Creatures, are back and casting another magical spell. Their signature mixture of mystery, suspense, and romance, along with a dash of fun and danger, will pull fans in and leave them begging for more.”
