Prior to the seventh season of Dexter, I’m not sure that I could have picture Edward James Olmos in a villainous context. Between numerous notable film appearances, including a starring role in Stand and Deliver, and of course, his fantastic performance as Admiral William Adam on Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica reboot, it was too easy to picture him as the reliable, responsible, dependable type. But Olmos showed us his dark side in Dexter and it looks like he may do it again for Universal’s Two Guns.

Variety is reporting that Olmos is in talks to play the villain in the Baltasar Kormakur directed Two Guns, a film based on a graphic novel. The movie will star Mark Wahlberg as a Navy SEAL and Denzel Washington as a DEA agent who work together, not knowing that each of them is undercover. Per Variety, “When the duo steal millions from the CIA, they discover double-crossing associates who will do anything to retrieve the money.” It certainly sounds like the set-up for something interesting.

Olmos is in negotiations to play the role of Papi Greco, “a dangerous Mexican druglord who runs up against the protags.” Assuming everything works out, he’ll join Bill Paxton and Paula Patton among Wahlberg and Washington’s co-stars.

The plot sounds interesting, and I have to admit, though I’d probably rather associate Olmos with his iconic role as Adama, he pulled off the villain act rather well in Dexter, taking that kind-but-firm, sometimes-intimidating approach we saw from him in BSG and twisting it into something dark and creepy. So it’s sort of great to see him looking to continue to tread on the dark side.
