You wouldn’t know it by looking at the skin-tight Catwoman costume that she wore in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, but apparently Anne Hathaway has low self-esteem… or at least she will in the new film The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie.
THR, which reported the casting, says that the script was co-written by The Office scribes Mindy Kaling and Brent Forrester is a romantic comedy who only dates losers because of her lack of faith in herself. This begins to change “when she is pursued by the hottest guy ever.” The screenplay was previously featured on the Black List, which is an annual list of the most popular unproduced scripts in Hollywood. The trade says that Kaling will likely take on a supporting role in the feature, but doesn’t specify character details. John Malkovich will be an executive producer on the film through his Mr. Mudd Productions banner, as will Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake of Good Universe.
The film will be the feature debuts for both Kaling and Forrester as writers, as all of their previous experience has been on television. Kaling’s new show The Mindy Project, which she also stars in, debuted on September 25th. The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie is still in the development stages and is actively looking for a director.
Hathaway will next be seen playing Fantine in Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation of Les Miserables. It was also reported recently that she is being pursued for a role in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi action movie Robopocalypse.
