Weekly Reading List #251

Happy Sunday readers! I hope everyone is doing well. I’m staying on top of my reading mainly because no movies are coming out or bringing people to the theaters. I understand that those who make movies want to make money, but I think what they fail to understand is that if no movies are coming out, no one is encouraged to come to the movies. I work in the movie theater industry as a manager and I feel so bad for all my employees because their hours are getting cut as corporate cuts down on operating hours. I can’t really blame corporate, people are not coming because nothing is coming out. If they play it, people will come.

I just had to share my 2 cents on that. I know COVID-19 is very real, my husband had it and thankfully recovered but it is not going to be going away any time soon, at least not until there is a vaccine out there. I strongly believe that if people wear their masks properly and continue practicing social distancing things can, slowly, get back to somewhat normal.

Not gonna lie, I am happy it is slow at work because that’s where I get all my reading done right now, but I feel bad for all my employees, most of whom get paid minimum wage (and in Florida that is low while the cost of living is pretty high).

Anyway, just wanted to update you guys. I hope you all are staying safe and sound. Now, on that note, check out my latest reading list, a sneak peek into reviews coming this week.

1. Entwined

reading list

by A.J. Rosen (Goodreads Author)

Sometimes love gets a bit twisted.

Avery Montgomery doesn’t even know if she wants a soul mate.

As a member of the Hellenicus—a race founded in antiquity and descended directly from the Greek gods—Avery’s attending her first Gathering where she’ll gain the ability to entwine her thoughts with her destined soul mate and be tied to them forever.

But all is not as it seems at the Royal Court. There are severe and strange looks from the elders, whisperings from the ancient Dodona tree, and encounters with spirits who seem to know Avery better than she knows herself.

Throughout these whirlwind events at Court, Avery finds herself torn between her feelings for the wise and protective Vladimir and the passionate, fun-loving Adrian. Unwilling to surrender her independence or to betray her heart, Avery must decide once and for all if she’ll give in to her desires and risk the wrath of the Gods.

Because who are you if your destiny lies with another person?

2. Ghost Wood Song

reading list

by Erica Waters (Goodreads Author)

Sawkill Girls meets Beautiful Creatures in this lush and eerie debut, where the boundary between reality and nightmares is as thin as the veil between the living and the dead.

If I could have a fiddle made of Daddy’s bones, I’d play it. I’d learn all the secrets he kept.

Shady Grove inherited her father’s ability to call ghosts from the grave with his fiddle, but she also knows the fiddle’s tunes bring nothing but trouble and darkness.

But when her brother is accused of murder, she can’t let the dead keep their secrets.

In order to clear his name, she’s going to have to make those ghosts sing.

Family secrets, a gorgeously resonant LGBTQ love triangle, and just the right amount of creepiness make this young adult debut a haunting and hopeful story about facing everything that haunts us in the dark.

3. Havenfall (Havenfall #1)

reading list

by Sara Holland (Goodreads Author)

A safe haven between four realms and the girl sworn to protect it—at any cost.

Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds—each with its own magic. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.

For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic firsthand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie’s brother. It’s where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it’s where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.

But this summer, the impossible happens—a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She’ll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer, Taya, who seems to know more than she’s letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie—no one can be trusted, and no one is safe…

Bestselling author Sara Holland pulls readers into an enchanting world where both power and peril lurk behind every door.
