I Killed the King Review | Knives Out Meets Fantasy in a Clever Locked-Room Mystery

When I heard I Killed the King described as Knives Out meets fantasy,” I immediately knew I had to pick it up.

A locked-room murder mystery is already one of my favorite mystery setups, but adding magic, royal politics, and a cast of suspicious characters? That’s exactly the kind of genre mash-up I love.

Thankfully, Rebecca Mix and Andrea Hannah deliver a fast-paced mystery that leans just as heavily into detective work as it does fantasy, creating a story that constantly keeps readers guessing.
