Is Cameron Diaz Now Playing The Female Lead In Ridley Scott’s The Counselor?

cameron_diaz_30837First there was talk of Angelina Jolie. Then there was word that Penelope Cruz was in the mix. Today we learn that a third name is now going after the female lead in Ridley Scoutt’s The Counselor.
Already set to star Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem and Brad Pitt, the film is about a lawyer living on the border who decides that he can try and make some quick money in the drug game and then walk away with clean hands. These plans go awry, as you can imagine, and the titular character must fight for his life. The story is based on a script that Cormac McCarthy wrote late last year.

Twitch is saying that the role of Malkina, the love interest of Fassbender’s character now belongs to Cameron Diaz. Rumors began last month that said Cruz was interested when Jolie couldn’t do it, but now it would seem Diaz has taken the gig. This is a surprising piece of news if not simply because Diaz has been doing man comedies recently. Last year she played a horrible excuse for a human being in Bad Teacher and next will be seen as a pregnant woman in the multi-storied romantic comedy What To Expect When You’re Expecting. The actress’ last straight drama was 2009’s My Sister’s Keeper, but she has also done other darker roles such as her parts in Being John Malkovich and Gangs of New York.
