For generations, twins ruled Aeon. However, after one ritual, magic broke the world, submerging one world in constant darkness while the other was in constant sunlight, splitting up the next generation of twins. However, when dark forces start to haunt both twins, they embark on a journey to the Breaking and their own prophecy to fulfill.

Published by HarperTeen, The Never Tilting World is the first novel in a new YA fantasy series by  Rin Chupeco.

The Never Tilting World is such an exciting concept, and what makes a novel a fun read is the way the story splits between four narratives. Each narrative is fun and full of such vitality. The chapter headers alone are enough to make the reader smile, but the added element of balancing the seriousness and the humor. Each character has a struggle to cope with, some secret from the past that they are trying to uncover that in some way also mingles in with the backstory of other characters. It creates a cohesive story that is engaging on all levels for the reader. With all these secrets unfolding as the story progresses, it captivates the reader because even from the beginning, the reader can sense by the tone of the novel that there is something not right.

There is also some diversity in the novel that makes the read even more enjoyable. An LGBT couple is facing the struggle of class and position. Their struggle is engaging and brings another level of struggle into the narrative. It makes it easy for the reader to connect with them and even root for them. Then there are the other two characters. Both of whom are so different and yet balance each other wonderfully.

Each personality is so vibrant, but what is interesting is the way the personalities mirror the world that they are in. The Never Tilting World is a perfect blend of science fiction and fantasy because the way the planet does not rotate mirrors the reality of Uranus capturing the extreme temperatures that coincide with the world being in both constant sunshine while the other side is in constant darkness. The magic and fantastical element highlight the science fiction and gives the novel a unique substance.

The Never Tilting World is a riveting story with fascinating characters and a plot that will make the reader eager for a sequel. (★★★★☆)
