I don’t know about you folks, but as a witch I absolutely love a good witchy read. So here are five titles that I think are absolutely perfect. Happy reading!
1. Cackle
by Rachel Harrison
I just finished this book. I started it during my 3-hour tattoo session and finished it the next day. It was such a quick read that I recommend it to readers at work. It is funny and bright and strong. Basically, this book is about empowering women. That is the core of the novel. It has a slow start, but it was definitely worth the read.
2. The Nature of Witches
by Rachel Griffin
I love The Nature of Witches. If you read my review I wrote for it last year (or early this year?) you know that I loved this book. It talks about climate change, how the seasons change people and the effect of PTSD and grief. It is such a great novel that I think everyone should read. And the witchy element? It’s simply amazing.
3. The Wicked Deep
by Shea Ernshaw
This is the first book by Shea Ernshaw that I ever read and since then I have always been a fan. The book is simply amazing, it is haunting and gripping and takes such unexpected and heartbreaking turns. Oh my god, my heart hurts just thinking about this book, but that’s why I love Ernshaw and her writing.
4. The Black Witch
by Laurie Forest
I love the Black Witch Chronicles and they all start right here. This is the only book here with heavy high fantasy elements, but it deserves to be here. Witches, wands, rebellions, and dragons! This is such a good start to a great series.
5. The Once and Future Witches
by Alix E. Harrow
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I love this book. Oh my god, this book blows my mind every time I think about it. It is so empowering, taking the suffrage movement and adding a witch element. Witches are only women who do not want to bend down, who hold their heads up high, and who have intent and power at their fingertips. Everyone needs to read this novel.
