The 10th Kingdom Sequel: The House of Wolves

The10thKD164I know I keep harping on all these sequels that I want.  But can you blame me? I mean, there is a reason I love these movies/mini-series.  I mean, the likelihood that someone will read this and say, “hey, this is a great idea,” is slim to none, I admit.  But there is always that hope that someone will read this and do it. According to AngelFire.com, it took Simon Moore, the creator, and writer of The 10th Kingdom, more than 12 years to make the original miniseries.

That was all before 2000.  After 2000, after the NBC debut, Moore replied to fan letters with a short synopsis of the sequel (since it was hinted at in the ending of The 10th Kingdom).  He told fans that it would take place mainly in the 2nd Kingdom and would center around Wolf (who was played by Scott Cohen) this time.  He also said that Virginia was very much pregnant.

In 2001 it was noted that all the actors, except for John Larroquette [Tony], were interested in returning for the sequel.  However, even he said he would return for a short cameo role.  He reasoned that he hated the 6-months of filming that had taken him away from his family.  This is entirely understandable; people get homesick. We all know there never was a sequel.  Hallmark never picked it up, and neither did NBC, even though fans have been asking for it for 11 years.

NBC’s whole reasoning is because miniseries had dismal ratings in America anyway, making them have little to no interest in a sequel.  However, Hallmark had more orders for the boxed tape than they could fill.  I contributed, buying both the video boxed set and the DVD when it came out on DVD. There is a little hope, though.  As of March 2004, Moore said in an interview:

“I would love to continue the adventures of Wolf and Virginia, but there are a number of obstacles in the way. However, as some of you know, The 10th Kingdom took nearly twelve years to get made, so don’t give up on a sequel quite yet!”

In 2006, Moore gave a little less hopeful response saying:

“Most of you know that a second series of 10th Kingdom is something I would love to do, but we will all have to wait until the time is right and the opportunity presents itself. I have no more news on the subject, but if it is meant to happen, then one day it will…”

I would love a sequel. Heck, even a prequel would be excellent.  Who says it has to be another miniseries?  It could be a movie or even a TV Series.  Fairy Tale shows are all the rage at the moment.  So why not? If you would like to see a sequel, you can sign The 10th Kingdom Sequel Petition.  I did!

  1. I have seen the series about five times and it is incredibly magical.
Hopefully there will be a sequel.

  2. The original book was written by Kathryn Wesley. Who the heck is Simon Moore? I have been a fan of this movie since its release and own the VHS and DVD sets. I also own the book. I’m watching it right now! I’ve seen it literally at least 50 times, and that is no exaggeration. It was a huge part of my childhood (I’m 26 now.)

    1. Simon Moore is the person who wrote the miniseries. The novelization which came out at the same time as the premiere, was based off Moore’s first draft of the screenplay, hence some of the differences.

      1. Oh! Cool! I didn’t know that! Thank you for the enlightenment! I pray that Kathryn writes a second book. If a movie (or miniseries) isn’t made, I won’t be disappointed provided she writes another book!

      2. I hope so too, but I highly doubt it. It’s been 16 years, and while the miniseries is now celebrating its 15th Anniversary with a Blu-ray edition, the book is out if print, I’ve tried for years to get my hands on a copy, even Amazon doesn’t have it 🙁

      1. i have not, thank you! i used to have a copy, but it got lost when i moved from MA to FL. Although, I’m pretty sure my moms roommate stole it, she was a klepto 🙁

  3. I love the first one and I really want to see the second sequel so bad it’s driving me crazy and I would sign the petition but I can’t find it anywhere

    1. I’ve given up. it was great and it would have been great to watch a sequel, but the actors by this time will not be the same as they once were.

  4. Indeed I want part two. Rather two then going back in time. I think now is a eonderful time for it. With ONCE UPON A TIME. on TV, Grimm also all the fairy tail moives in theater. If filming on location is so hard. Do blue screen. It is not as real looking but at least we would have it. Or even give us a book a BIG LONG BOOK

  5. I totally would’ve signed the petition but it’s gone! I can see how maybe a production might take time to get going again but what about a book! Wasn’t this based on a book? I’d totally read the series then can patiently wait for any more movies/specials/etc

  6. My cousin got me hooked on this movie/mini series and i love it but i think maybe Moore is just waiting for the right technology like they did for star wars i mean im not going to lie id love to see wat happens to virginia and wolf especially after she said they were quickly interrupted by another crisis in the kingdoms. And i think abc would be good to take it on or even BBC America

  7. I love this so much have gotten friends and family to read the book and watch the mini series. I need to know what happened to Virginia and wolf. It kills me not knowing

  8. I had the honor of being an extra in the tenth kingdom. I was the wide armed clapping one in little lamb village, villager number 13. We will sheer you??? Worst thing I’ve ever said on screen!!! Hilarious! It was a great experience! Please let’s do another one and who knows I might even get a part this time!!!
I never realized how loved this show was. Let’s re-release it over planet and use the proceeds to fund the 10th kingdom 2.
    God bless y’all!!!

  9. Just watched it for about the 5th time, with my kids this time 11 and 6. they both loved it a little scarey in places but are desperate for more.

Please make a sequel / prequel its been too long since the original.

  10. I grew up watching this series and when it came to VHS I bought it and when it came to DVD I bought and I will forever watch it. Has anyone thought to contact Abc family seeing as how they do once upon a time or maybe even Disney

  11. When 10th kingdom first came out I lived in a small town everyone in that town made sure they were home to watch it every night it was on I loved it I even sat up last night and watch the whole thing I want the second one

  12. Watched the 10th kingdom again, still made me laugh and cry, loved it. Agree Americans are ready and waiting for a sequel.

  13. I purchased the 10th Kingdom in September 2014. I watched it and it left me wanting to see More. Will be waiting.
